When you arrive at Stalag Luft XIX, you will be assigned to your barracks and you will meet your fellow POWs. Most are unfortunate casualties of war just like you – but be careful, some may be German “plants”, posing as POWs to gather information on escape attempts.
Your daily routine will be:
- 07.00 - Wake up call, showers, morning exercise*, roll call
- 08.00 – Breakfast**
- 09.00 – Morning workshop***
- 10.30 – Morning break
- 11.00 – Morning workshop cont.
- 12.00 – Lunch**

- 14.30 – Afternoon break
- 15.00 – Afternoon workshop cont.
- 17.00 – Free time
- 19.00 – Evening meal**
- 20.00 – Free time – movies, reading, exercise
- 22.00 – Lights out
*Exercise sessions will be led by the camp fitness officer and will keep you fit for duty following liberation
**All meals served in the camp are designed to be nutritious and healthy, all prepared by the camp chef using the contents of Red Cross parcels
***Morning and afternoon workshops feature lectures of your choice by experts as available, disguised as regular lectures on harmless subjects allowed by the commandant
During your captivity you may attend secret lectures on your chosen subject – German WW2 headgear, uniforms, medals and badges, edged weapons, Nazi party history etc., and upon liberation you will receive a certificate to prove you have attended these courses.
Your primary duty will be to help with escape attempts. Some of your fellow prisoners have been working on tunnels and other methods since long before you arrived, and they may ask you to help in their attempts. Be warned, the penalty for trying to escape is death.
LECTURES

POW Escapes has arranged for some of the world’s leading authorities on WW2 to give lectures in the camp. You will learn about German WW2 headgear, uniforms, medals and badges, edged weapons, Nazi party history etc, and you will be taught how to recognise fakes with samples provided for illustration. When you leave the camp, you will be presented with a certificate to say you have attended and passed the course. Details of courses available in 2010 will be sent to you with your booking confirmation.
